Atlanta:
A 54-year-old man was found killed in house fire mishap at Atlanta on Monday. The man was identified as Edwin Haygood.

Atlanta police homicide investigators are helping firefighters investigate a deadly hose fire. Atlanta police confirmed that death is being considered suspicious.

According to sources, Edwin Haygood died from head injuries and family said he lived in a small home at Murray Street for more than a decade, until the deadly fire.

“Edwin being the first born, he was very special. He lives around the corner from his son, and was one of the first people at the scene when Edwin’s body was pulled out of the home. He believes his son is in a better place, but he’s still deeply saddened because he wants to know exactly what happened Monday morning, said his father, John Haygood.

According to Fire officials, the fire started around 1 a.m. Monday in the second floor of the victim’s home. At that point, authorities are ruling the deadly fire suspicious mainly because the victim had serious head injuries when firefighters found his body sprawled out in the doorway of his bathroom.

“It’s under investigation as to how the fire started and how he died,” said Sgt. Cortez Stafford with Atlanta Fire Rescue.
