Police cross firing, smugglers killed

The police and the miscreants’ gang had a gun war in the early hours of the day in the East Godavari District of the state. In the melee, the miscreants succumbed to the bullets fired by the police. Ganja smuggling is much prevalent in these parts of the district. In one such bid, the firing took place. Police had adhered to stringent combing operations to curb the menace.

As per sources, the combing mission was followed on a routine basis. Today as usual, the police had started the operation in the early hours in the Y Ramavaram mandal. At the Erragadda junction, police had come across a gang who were smuggling ganja. On noticing the approaching cops, the miscreants opened fire. Police retaliated, the attack. There were some tense moments in the village in the early hours of the day.

In the ensuing battle, miscreants could not withstand the police operations. In the process, though they knew that they were no match to the sleuths, the miscreants were relentless. In the melee, almost all of them succumbed one by one to the police firing.
