Prime Minister Modi arrived in China on Sunday to attend the 9th BRICS summit. During this summit PM is looking forward to have “Productive discussion and positive outcomes” with other leaders in group to support the agenda for a stronger partnership among member countries.

During his two days visit, PM Modi is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings including with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other BRICS leaders. Recently India and China managed to end 73 days Dokalam Stand off.

“I look forward to building upon the results and outcomes of the Goa Summit. I also look forward to productive discussions and positive outcomes that will support the agenda of a stronger BRICS partnership under chairmanship of China”, said PM ahead of his visit to China.

On BRICS, Prime Minister said that he will have the opportunity to meet leaders bilaterally on the sidelines of BRICS summit.

PM has also said, “India attaches high importance to the role of BRICS that begun  it’s second decade of its partnership for progress and peace”. “BRICS has made important contributions in addressing global challenges and upholding world peace and security”.

PM was greeted by Indian Community in Xiamen upon his arrival. And he is expected to meet China’s president Xi Jinping for a bilateral discussion on Tuesday afternoon. PM is also scheduled to meet Russian President Vladmir Putin before meeting Brazilian President Michel Temer in the evening.

Chinese President addressed gathering this morning, to open the summit. He spoke, how the BRICS is “Providing an alternative world order”, and also about the progress groups made in first decade of BRICS. He also talked about OBOR (One Belt One Road) and said that it is an initiative but not a tool to advance any geopolitical agenda, but a platform for practical Cooperation.

Xi closed his 40 min speech by saying that Beijing encouraged Chinese Companies to continue to go abroad, and ‘Warmly Welcomed’ other country firms to invest in the China.
