Atlanta:
India is sending its first female diplomat posted to Atlanta as a Consul General in the place of Nagesh Singh. Swati Vijay Kulkarni, a medical doctor by training and more than 20-year veteran of India’s Foreign service.

The consulate General of India which was established in 2012 will see Dr. Kulkarni as the third person to lead the general.

Presently, she is heading up the regional passport office in Mumbai and as well also held overseas postings as consul general in Cape Town, South Africa. She served as a deputy chief of mission at the Indian embassy in Muscat, Oman.

She worked in India’s High Commission in London to fight discrimination against Indian medical school graduates in United kingdom. She even served in Spain and Mauritius.

India is among the countries which has top diplomatic posts with women including current external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj.

Dr. Kularni will be serving as a massive India-origin community estimated more than 100,000 in Georgia alone, and covering six states overall with the Indian population of a about 300,000. As India-origin physicians make a significant number of medical community in United Sates, she’ll invariably run into fellow doctors.

Nagesh Singh and Dr. Kulkarni entered Foreign service in the same year 1995. These select cohorts traditionally form enduring professional bonds over nearly two years of training.
