T. M. Soundararajan is no more!

Celebrated playback singer T. M. Soundararajan has expired at the age of aged 91 in Chennai, where he had lived with his family. He had been suffering from breathing problems as well as was hospitalised in a private nursing home.

Furthermore, the playback singer was known for a high-pitched voice laden with emotion had sung for the likes of MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, N.T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Gemini Ganesan as well as Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan.

The legend was born in Madurai, TMS, as he later came to be known, entered the Tamil film industry with the song, ‘Radhe nee ennai vittu pogathaedi,’ from the film ‘Krishna Vijayam.’ While his big break came with the Sivaji Ganesan starrer, ‘Thooku, Thooki,’ at the same time with more than 10,000 songs to his credit, TMS had the ability to mould his voice to suit that of the hero he was singing for.

Cutting across language barriers TMS sang in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam as well Hindi. His initial venture into acting stated with Tamil films like ‘Pattinathar,’ Kala Megham and Kaviraja, in addition to producing the film Kallum Kaniyagum.
