With the consistent rise in the number of confirmed cases in the United States, it is not surprising that the government has been working on building makeshift hospitals to ease the strain on the healthcare system across the country.
The country reported 700 deaths in a day, taking the tally to the highest Covid-19 deaths in the country so far. It has surpassed the death toll in China as well.
The same has been reported to be equivalent to a person dying every two minutes, which is nothing short of scary at this point of time.
Out of all the reported deaths, around half of them have been in New York which is the worst hit state in the United States. The same is still considered the epicentre of the outbreak in the country.
Aside from that, Mayor Bill de Blasio has pledged for reinforcements from the Trump administration, stating that it is likely that the worst hit is still in the cards in the coming few weeks.
Blasio further stated saying, “This is the point at which we must be prepared for next week when we expect a huge increase in the number of cases. What I asked very clearly, last week, was for military medical personnel to be deployed here.”
De Blasio also urged the Trump administration and White House to provide with additional resources for the hospitals, especially in terms of 1000 nurses, 300 respiratory therapists, 150 doctors by April 5 to meet the constant rising demands. But, he reported that they are still awaiting a response from the Trump administration surrounding the same.
Over 188,000 confirmed cases have been reported in the United States, with reports of over 4000 deaths already. According to one of the White House medical experts in the coronavirus outbreak team, it has been mentioned that it is likely that the death toll could very well range somewhere between 100,000 to 200,000 cases in the United States.
Around 30 states in the US have been imposed with the Stay at Home orders to keep the risk of the spread of the virus to a bare minimum during this situation of crisis. The same orders have also impacted the economy and left thousands of people without jobs.
With the kind of outbreak that US has been experiencing, the US Army has been on the lookout for several hotels, dormitories, convention centres and open spaces in general to help convert them into makeshift hospitals.
The US Army convention has already collaborated with the New York state official to convert the Jacob Javits Convention Centre into a 1000 bed hospital within a matter of week to meet the overwhelming impacts that the hospitals around New York have been experiencing.
