Omicron Surge: Deaths and Hospitalization low in USA

USA and UK have a seen a sharp rise in the new cases of coronavirus due to the spread of Omicron variant. USA reported more than 5 lakh new cases in a single day and this is the highest ever surge across the globe ever since the coronavirus pandemic started. The Omicron variant is badly infectious and 58 percent of the new cases reported in USA are said to be due to Omicron. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky said that the hospitalization and deaths in the country are quite low when compared to the new reported cases. Rochelle Walensky said that the cases would continue to increase in the coming weeks.

The current spike is more than 60 percent in the current week when compared to the last week in the nation. The average hospitalization rate is said to be 14 percent and th deaths are down by 7 percent after the Omicron variant reached the country. The hospitalization and the deaths are high because of the Delta variant than due to the Omicron variant. The government wanted the people to take up booster doses and the vaccination drive for the children too is happening at a faster pace. Thousands are rushing towards the testing laboratories and there is a huge rush and scarcity for the testing kits in the USA.
