The Delhi High Court announced on Thursday that it would safeguard the personal rights of Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna. Justice Tejas Karia was looking into a request made by Nagarjuna that expressed worries regarding the violation of his personality rights due to the unauthorized use of his image in content shared on social media and in products. The judge stated that they could issue an order to remove such content once specific web addresses are provided to identify it. Advocate Pravin Anand, representing Nagarjuna, mentioned that there were additional web addresses that displayed the actor’s image without consent, although they were not as serious as those already noted. The court ultimately declared it would issue an order to protect Nagarjuna's personality rights.
Nagarjuna's lawsuit at the Delhi High Court is part of a growing number of similar cases brought by well-known figures like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor, and others. In these instances, the High Court has issued orders preventing the unauthorized use of the celebrities' personality rights. It is noteworthy that in some situations, the likeness, voice, or images of actors and actresses were also used for inappropriate purposes, which were likewise ordered to be blocked.
Today, Nagarjuna’s legal team highlighted that the actor holds a significant reputation. This reputation is now under threat due to unauthorized content that exploits his image, including AI-created materials that manipulate his images and are uploaded on platforms like YouTube. Advocate Pravin Anand raised alarms that this misuse could escalate if such altered content is allowed to be used for training Artificial Intelligence models.
