The Atlanta Bread Company closed doors of its Merrimon Avenue location. Asheville is now down to one Atlanta Bread Company, located at 484 Hendersonville Road.
The local franchisees Jill and John Fisher owned the both restaurants. They opened Atlanta Bread on Merrimon Avenue in 2001 and purchased the Hendersonville Road outpost two years later.
According to Fisher, there was no particular reason for the closing. "All employees were offered jobs at the Hendersonville Road location," she said. "Some of them came and some (are) pursuing other options."
A statement on the North Asheville store's Facebook page said that, "It's with great sadness and a heavy heart that we decided to close the Merrimon Ave location. We want to thank everyone for your loyalty over the years. We are truly going to miss all the locals that came in everyday, not just for the food but for the conversations as well. It was as close to the show Cheers as you'll get. I guess all good things must come to an end. We haven't left Asheville though, so come visit us on the south side of town. Thanks again everybody!!"
