Turkey pulls out from European Treaty on violence against women

Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey pulled out the country the European Treaty which is designed to protect women. The Council of Europe Accord staged in Istanbul is formed to prosecute and prevent domestic violence against women and to promote equality in the society. Turkey signed the accord in the year 2011 saw a rise in the incidents last year. Tayyip Erdogan provided no reason for the withdrawal and the officials said that the government considered the decision for a year and they have been struggling to prevent the growing cases against women.

Turkey's Family, Labour and Social Policies Minister Zehra Zumrut posted on Twitter saying "The guarantee of women’s rights are the current regulations in our bylaws, primarily our Constitution. Our judicial system is dynamic and strong enough to implement new regulations as needed,". Several criticized Turkey for the move saying that this would put the country further out of step with the values of the European Union. Before Turkey, Poland's highest court too ordered the movie in the past. Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey condemns the violence against the women and his government has been trying their best to prevent domestic violence against women. But the critics say that the government did not do enough to prevent domestic violence and femicides.
