Ahead of the highly anticipated face-off against arch-rival Pakistan, India's captain Rohit Sharma suffered an injury to his left thumb while batting in the practice session. However, the skipper resumed training after receiving medical attention from the team's healthcare staff. The India-Pakistan match will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The 37-year-old captain received a blow to his thumb while training at the nets and this required immediate medical attention. After the ball struck Rohit's thumb, he removed his glove to assess the impact, and the medical staff rushed to the ground to examine the India captain. Following the checkup, the Indian skipper resumed his practice in the nets with full intensity. The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium pitch has become a hot topic in New York, where India played their first match of the tournament against Ireland. Notably, Team India beat Ireland by 8 wickets on the same ground. In the match, the captain scored 52 runs off 37 balls with a strike rate of 140.

The cricketer suffered an injury and had to leave the game after the 10th over. Following discussions on the field, the International Cricket Council released a statement on Thursday, acknowledging that the pitches used at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup have not been as reliable as expected. The groundskeepers are diligently working to find a solution and provide the "highest quality surfaces" for the remaining matches. The stadium utilizes a portable pitch, which is prepared away from the venue and then installed for the game. "T20 Inc and the ICC recognize that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not performed as consistently as we all hoped," the ICC statement said. "The expert grounds crew have been making extensive efforts since the end of yesterday's match to address the issue and deliver the best possible surfaces for the upcoming games," it continued.
